On Pain and Suffering

There’s a distinction I’d like to make between suffering by the hands of another and suffering that would be happening internally, whether in your physical body or mind.  In this instance, I am referring to suffering that occurs within oneself.

On a physiological level, emotional pain triggers the same neurological reaction that physical pain elicits.  While it can be easy to manage a stubbed toe or a paper cut, it takes much more care and knowledge to manage a broken arm or internal ailments.

For instance, you would need to know how to identify something that can’t be easily seen without equipment.  You would need to have an idea of the types of things that could go wrong in those areas to begin with.  Not only would you need to know what is wrong, but also how to fix it.

Emotional pain is quite similar.  Identifying that the pain is there is the first step.  From there, we can explore where it’s coming from and why it came about.  You may be experiencing a high-intensity emotion, such as heartache or grief, but those are actually separate from suffering itself!  There is hope for a brighter tomorrow, even if only in your world.

How will you overcome suffering and reclaim control of your life?
